Emotional expressiveness and technical brilliance, Ross’ love of the ‘big orchestra sound’ and music of all kinds; packed with vivid youthfulness have brought him to the attention of the music world as a conductor of the next generation. In September 2021 Ross joined the Conducting Staff of the San Francisco Symphony. As well as being a Colburn Artist, Ross is a part of the London Philharmonia's Emerging Artists programme and made his debut with the Philharmonia in May 2022.
Previously a student of the world renowned “Maestro of Maestros” Jorma Panula at the Panula Academy, The Finnish-British conductor is now pursuing his Conducting Diploma at the Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, where he studies under the guidance of Esa-Pekka Salonen in the Negaunee Conducting Program as a Salonen Fellow.
Ross’ own instrument is the cello and he started studying conducting with Klaus Mäkelä at the age of 14 in Helsinki. One year later Ross founded his own symphony orchestra and conducted his first full symphony concert.
In the 2022/23 Season Ross is set to debut with the San Francisco Symphony in their Soundbox Programme. His schedule aslo involves working closely with Esa-Pekka Salonen, assisting him with the San Francisco Symphony both in the Bay Area’s Davies Symphony Hall and on tour to Europe in March with Johan Dalene and Yuja Wang.
